Sharp vocals carry analytical, incisive lyrics asking a basic question: where do we actually come from? The song's answer is that across history, humanity has mixed so completely that we may all be connected somewhere in a shared lineage — descendants of each other, whether we realize it or not. It was written after visiting an outdoor exhibit in downtown Boise with personal interviews of refugees who had resettled in the local community, describing the struggles that led them to leave their home countries for their own safety or their family's — a reminder of how much of human history is built on people moving, mixing, and surviving.
